Day 5

The days are flying by. Today were up early again with the monkeys, and ready at 7:30 for our whitewater rafting tour. We drove about 2 hours up into the rainforest where we loaded into rubber rafts for our trip down the river. Level 3 and 4 rapids and us with no experience, made for some adrenaline rushes. After a very brief orientation, we started down the river to hit some level 2 rapids almost immediately. Joanne freaked out, grabbed the side rope and let go of her paddle. The only thing they said not to do and next thing you know she has a bloody nose from the paddle hitting her in the face(30 seconds in). After laughing lots and wiping the blood away, we carried on. It was like travelling through Jurrasic Park with monkeys in the trees, iguanas, huge spiders and several species of birds. It was one of the best days we have had. Near the end of the trip we went over a 12 foot waterfall, but we all managed to stay a float. It was pretty cool. After a few cervesa's and an excellent seafood lunch we made our way back to the hotel. On the way we stopped and watched a group of howler monkeys climbing in the trees and howling like crazy. To end a perfect day we went up to our room to clean up for supper and have a beer on our deck. Out on the deck was another whole group of monkeys climbing, howling and playing in the trees only about 100 ft from us. We love this place!!! Tomorrow we are renting a jeep and going for a drive down a rode they call the monkey trail, along the ocean down to Tamarindo... More info to follow..
